About Our Project
In 2020, we initiated plans to consolidate our three separate facilities into a single, functional, and accessible building. The existing facilities were not only inadequate but also too costly to bring up to code, making new construction the most practical solution to better meet our clients' needs.
The new facility is designed to bring all our programs and services under one roof, significantly reducing barriers for community members seeking support. The City of Cold Lake has demonstrated its commitment to this vision by providing a strategically located piece of land near schools, healthcare facilities, businesses, and a transit line. This prime location ensures accessibility and convenience for those who rely on our services.

The goal for Phase One of our current construction project is $7.5 million, with a total Phase One project cost of $34.5 million. While we have secured Federal and Provincial government funding, these contributions are not enough to cover the entire cost of the project. Rising construction expenses, particularly in Northern communities like Cold Lake, make it imperative for us to seek additional support. We are calling on our community and supporters to join us in addressing the pervasive, yet often overlooked, issue of domestic abuse. Our ambitious fundraising is a critical step in achieving this goal.
In 2025, we aim to open Phase One of our project a state-of-the-art 50,000-square-foot, four-story facility. This new building will double our current capacity and offer specialized spaces designed to meet the diverse needs of our clients. This facility represents more than just a building; it’s a commitment to hope, safety, and a brighter future. Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to opening the doors of this transformative space. Together, we can create a community that supports and uplifts those affected by domestic violence.
Project Timeline
Identification and Investigation
Program delivery impacted; barriers identified. A full review concluded renovations aren't a viable long-term solution.
Conceptualization
Early design and conceptualizing on a new building if funding was awarded. Applications for capital grant funding submitted.
First Grant Funding Attained
Grant funding awarded for the build; designs prioritize supporting the local economy. Rising material costs increase overall expenses.
Breaking Ground
We break ground, and fundraising commences.
Estimated Completion
Anticipated project completion date is July 2025!
The building will offer inclusive community support spaces, welcoming everyone in need, whether or not they reside at the shelter. These spaces will include private meeting rooms, training areas, and a resource library, fostering the development of essential life skills and supporting mental well-being.
Spiritual and cultural support will remain integral to our mission. Safe, dedicated spaces will be available for practices such as smudging and prayers, honouring diverse traditions and promoting holistic healing.
Designed with trauma-informed principles, the building will create an environment of calm, safety, and comfort, featuring natural light, open layouts, and soothing design elements. As a net-zero ready facility, it will incorporate sustainable features, including green spaces, a healing garden, and a secure courtyard with a playground, enriching the lives of all who engage with the space.
